IPOB calls Kanu’s trial a judicial scandal, rejects FG’s EndSARS link

“There is no shred of evidence,” IPOB says as FG links Kanu to 2020 EndSARS protests.

The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has condemned the Federal Government’s attempt to link its detained leader, Nnamdi Kanu, to the 2020 #EndSARS protests, calling the move a “judicial scandal” and a “disgraceful abuse of legal process.”

In a Friday statement, IPOB spokesperson Emma Powerful said, “Kanu is not on trial for violence; he is on trial for daring to speak truth to power.”

At a Federal High Court session on June 19, the prosecution’s final witness, an intelligence officer identified as PW5-EEE, allegedly failed to connect Kanu to any crime.

“So damning was his performance that even the prosecution’s lead counsel, Chief Awomolo, SAN, cautioned him openly,” IPOB said.

The defence now plans to file a no-case submission.

IPOB also rejected the alleged #EndSARS link as “intellectually bankrupt,” stating: “There is no shred of evidence.”

The trial resumes July 18, when Justice Omotosho is expected to hear final submissions in the high-profile terrorism case
