A youth corps member serving in the area said “Everyone is running into the bushes for safety. The herdsmen are ravaging the environment now.”
MAKURDI — Suspected herdsmen attacked Wannune community in Tarka Local Government Area of Benue State late Friday, just 48 hours after President Bola Tinubu visited the state to address mounting insecurity.
Residents told SaharaReporters that the assailants set houses ablaze, forcing locals to flee into the surrounding bushes.
A youth corps member serving in the area described the scene as “chaotic,” adding, “Everyone is running into the bushes for safety. Please let Nigerians pray for us. The herdsmen are ravaging the environment now.”
The assault raises fresh concerns over the effectiveness of President Tinubu’s directives during his visit, where he ordered top security chiefs to arrest those behind the violence.
The visit followed the massacre of about 200 people in Yelewata community, Guma LGA, earlier in the week.
Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar criticised Tinubu’s visit, calling it a “political spectacle” lacking genuine intent.
