All six confirmed dead were adults.
Six people died and two others remain missing after a boat capsized on Lake Tahoe on Saturday, June 21, according to the El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office.
Authorities said a 27-foot Chris-Craft vessel carrying 10 people overturned near D.L. Bliss State Park amid stormy conditions, with waves reportedly reaching up to eight feet.
“The identities of the deceased will not be released until next-of-kin notifications have been made,” the sheriff’s office said on Facebook. All six confirmed dead were adults. Two people were rescued and hospitalized, while search efforts for the remaining two continued Sunday morning with assistance from the Coast Guard and local dive teams.
It remains unclear whether passengers were wearing life jackets or if children were among those onboard. The boat capsized around 3 p.m. local time. Officials are urging caution as the investigation continues.
Lake Tahoe lies on the California-Nevada border in the Sierra Nevada mountains.
