Fulani herders count losses as lightning kills 32 cows in Ogun

No fewer than 32 cows were struck dead by lightning during a heavy rainfall in Osara, Obantoko area of Odeda Local Government, Ogun State, on Saturday.

Baale of Osara, Chief Wasiu Afolabi, told Sunday PUNCH that Fulani herders in charge of the cattle reported the incident around 2 pm. “I got to their place… and saw these dead cows,” he said, adding that the matter was reported to the police and local government authorities.

Confirming the incident, Commissioner of Police Lanre Ogunlowo said, “The Command is well aware. The incident was reported to DPO Aregbe Division… 32 cows were struck dead when thunder and lightning occurred during a heavy downpour.”

Chief Afolabi assured that the community had scheduled a meeting with the herders to discuss next steps and ensure the incident does not disrupt local peace.
