The FBI has filed a civil forfeiture complaint and is seeking an arrest warrant for Ehiremen Aigbokhan, a Lagos-based fraudster accused of stealing over ₦460 million in cryptocurrency meant for U.S. President Donald Trump’s 2025 inauguration. According to court filings, Aigbokhan and accomplices used a Business Email Compromise (BEC) scam to deceive a donor into sending 250,300 USDT.ETH, mimicking the Trump-Vance Inaugural Committee’s email.
The fraudulent address, @t47lnaugural.com, closely resembled the official domain and led the victim to transfer funds on December 26, 2024. The FBI tracked the stolen crypto to Aigbokhan’s Binance account and linked related digital activity to Lagos. “The agency said 20,017 USDT.ETH was seized from Mr Aigbokhan’s wallet,” with additional funds traced to another account.
Crypto firm Tether froze the accounts after an FBI request. Assistant U.S. Attorney Rick Blaylock Jr. is pursuing legal forfeiture of the recovered assets.
