Ed Sheeran will lead the musical tribute at the Queen’s star-studded Jubilee pageant, it has been announced – eleven years after playing for a local street party in his socks to mark Prince William and Kate Middleton’s wedding.
The Bad Habits hitmaker, 31, as well as puppet corgis causing chaos along The Mall and a giant 3D wire bust of the monarch are to feature in the ‘People’s Pageant’ – the carnival finale of a weekend of celebrations on June 5.
Ed’s inclusion in the event comes just over a decade after he performed his single You Need Me, I Don’t Need You at a street party thought to have taken place in London to mark the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s April 2011 nuptials.
A video of the performance shared on YouTube shows the Shape Of You singer dressed in a red jumper, black jeans and a pair of green socks while playing his guitar.
But in the summer, Ed will swap the street party setting to play against the backdrop of Buckingham Palace.
