Pelosi has claimed to be a ‘devout’ Catholic despite supporting legalized abortion
Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi is barred from receiving Holy Communion due to her support of legalized abortion, announced San Francisco Archbishop Salvatore Cordileone on Friday.
Cordileone wrote a public letter to Pelosi informing her not to show up for Holy Communion at Mass. If the California Democrat does present herself, priests will not give her communion, explained Cordileone.
“A Catholic legislator who supports procured abortion, after knowing the teaching of the Church, commits a manifestly grave sin which is a cause of most serious scandal to others,” Cordileone wrote. “Therefore, universal Church law provides that such persons ‘are not to be admitted to Holy Communion.'”

Last month, Cordileone had already warned Pelosi that should she not change her pro-abortion stance, then he would have no choice but to declare her barred from Holy Communion. Pelosi, who claims to be a ‘devout’ Catholic despite supporting legalized abortion, has not changed her stance since Cordileone’s warning.
Pelosi has been at odds with the Catholic church for over a decade, stemming from a 2008 interview in which she said that the Church has not been able to define when life begins. She also spoke to Pope Francis last year but the Vatican did not reveal if abortion was discussed.
