Two police officers accused of brutally beating teenage boy, 16, in back garden

Shocking footage appears to shows two Metropolitan Police officers repeatedly punching a teenage boy in his friend’s back garden, sparking fury online.

The video seems to show the uniformed officers beating the 16-year-old at least seven times before piling on top of him in the back garden of a property in Abbey Wood, South East London, on June 10.

A lad, who recorded the clip, was heard yelling: “Oi! They’re bashing him up!”

Police were said to be responding to a report of a child who was robbed by a “group of males” in the area and stolen items were recovered from the house during the response.

However, social media users were outraged at the scale of force shown to the teenager as they believe it was excessive.

Before adding in a thread: “This is a friend of a friend’s son and took place yesterday in Abbey Wood. He had gone to see if his friend was okay as he saw police in his garden and this is what the end result was. The police weren’t even there for him.”

Others also expressed their shock at the clip, as one user wrote: “This is outrageous and must be investigated.”

In a statement, the force said: “A 16-year-old male [A] sought to make off from the address but was detained and arrested by officers on suspicion of robbery and possession of an offensive weapon. He has been bailed pending further enquiries.

“Another male entered the premises and assaulted police officers. This 16-year-old [B] was arrested on suspicion of common assault of an emergency worker. He has been released under investigation.”
