The North East Zonal treasurer of the People’s Democratic Party, Galadima Abbas Itas, has resigned from the party, following what he described as an unfair and unjust treatment of a presidential aspirant of the party and governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike.
Recall that a PDP committee set up to nominate a running mate for the party’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, had reportedly nominated Mr Wike as the vice presidential candidate of the party.
But in a twist of event, Mr Atiku announced Delta State governor, Ifeanyi Okowa as his running mate, a decision many of Mr Wike’s loyalists described as betrayal.
In the resignation letter dated July 12 and addressed to the Ward Chairman of Itas Gadau Local Government Area of Bauchi State, Mr Galadima said the selection of Mr Okowa contradicts his political principle and ideology.
According to him, the present situation in the party does not inspire confidence that the opposition party is ready to regain power in 2023.
