There are strong indications that owing to the recent jailbreak at the medium correctional centre in Kuje, the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has handed down a weeklong ultimatum for the demolition of unauthorized buildings and shanty settlements in the town.
Already, the area council authority and its traditional ruler have given their consent for the exercise to take effect.
The stakeholders meeting to brief the community on the intended activity was held on Friday.
Recall that Kuje was in the news recently when gunmen, believed to be members of the Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP), broke into the prison facility to free over 60 of their members in detention, and paved the way for other criminals to also escape.
President Muhammadu Buhari, while on his way to Senegal to attend a conference, branched to have an on-the-spot assessment, where he expressed surprise at the audacity of the terrorists.
The Gomo of Kuje, HRH Alhaji Haruna Jibrin, who reacted to the proposed exercise, stated that he thinks and hopes it will bring back normalcy and, most crucially, security to the town.
