The legal battle between Elon Musk and Twitter is only just beginning, he just got an October date set for the trial to start. Initially, Musk’s legal team attempted to get a motion that would ensure this trial wouldn’t begin until 2023. However, the judge in Delaware decided to rule against it and decided to set a date for the month of October. That’s when the trial between Twitter and Musk is bound to start.
A Delaware judge ruled that the extension request Elon Musk’s legal team made is not going to happen. This leaves Twitter with a chance to likely get their chance to begin the trial in the month of October. Chancellor Kathaleen St. Jude McCormick revealed that any delay would threaten irreparable harm to the case itself.
The biggest issue here is that Elon Musk’s decision to back down from the deal to buy Twitte is filled with many inconsistencies. McCormick fears that many facts that are considered urgent to reveal might get lost if this trial is delayed any longer. The Delaware Court of Chancery is used to dealing with high profile cases such as this one, they know how to handle them to perfection.
There a main plan to move forward with the trial as quickly as possible. Plus, any more delays on the trial leaves Twitter in a difficult financial situation as they were hoping to sell the platform and dropped their market value in dramatic fashion. In their view, the platform leaders are convinced this was a move from Elon Musk to burn Twitter to the ground. No exact date for the trial was given.
