The United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs says the global population has reached an estimated 8 billion.
With 216 million projected people in Nigeria, the country is home to 2.7 percent of the global population.
The UN said this in its latest World Population Prospects 2022, released on Tuesday to mark World Population Day.
According to the report, more than half of the projected population is concentrated in just eight countries: the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Egypt, Ethiopia, India, Nigeria, Pakistan, the Philippines and the United Republic of Tanzania.
