My partner sent me a text to say she was going to cheat on me

DEAR DEIDRE: MY partner sent me a text to say she was going to cheat on me. As far as I know, she didn’t, but I can’t stop thinking about it.

We are both 34 and I’m a builder. We go out with friends – she sees hers when she wants and I always have a few pints on a Friday night with mine.

She gets annoyed when I drink but it’s only once a week. Last Saturday she wanted to go out for dinner because it was our anniversary.

When I wasn’t home by 11pm, she sent me this text saying she wouldn’t be there when I got home and was going out “on the pull”.

By the time I got in, she was asleep. I had a hangover the next day but asked her if she wanted to go out for our anniversary dinner. 

She said: “Dinner? You must be joking.”

She hasn’t spoken to me since.

DEIDRE SAYS: You’ve spoilt her celebration and perhaps it was the straw that broke the camel’s back.

Her passive aggression is her way of telling you she has had enough of you drinking to excess and it affecting your weekends together.
