Police evacuated a shopping mall and the surrounding area in the eastern German city of Dresden after ending a hostage situation.
In a statement posted to Twitter, police confirmed that the hostage situation is over, with two apparently unharmed individuals in their care, after shots were reportedly fired.
It was not immediately clear if a suspect had been arrested.
Around 8.30am local time (7.30 GMT), Radio Dresden said that an armed man had entered the Ammonhof office building, where the broadcaster is located, and that shots had been fired.
Officers urged individuals to avoid the city centre on Saturday morning and ordered the Striezelmarkt Christmas market to remain closed while the operation was under way.
Shortly after 11.30am local time (10.30 GMT), police confirmed that they were in contact with the perpetrator, who had reportedly taken two hostages in the Altmarkt-Galerie shopping mall, with a negotiating group on site.
