Luka Modric said Daniele Orsato is ‘one of the worst’ referees he knows, probably remembering that the Italian official was the first one to show a red card and give a penalty against Real Madrid in a home Champions League clash.
Safe to say the Croatian star was not impressed by Orsato’s performance in a 3-0 loss against Argentina on Tuesday.
The experienced midfielder told Spanish media that the Italian referee is “one of the worst I know.”
“I am not just talking for today because he has refereed my matches many times and I never have a good memory of him. He is a disaster,” continued the Real Madrid star.
But why was Modric so angry with Orsato?
The 47-year-old, who was named the best referee in the World in 2020, has been in charge of three Real Madrid games in the last year: a 3-2 loss against RB Leipzig in October 2022, a 1-0 defeat against PSG in February 2020 and a 3-1 win after extra time at the Santiago Bernabeu this past May. That victory allowed the Merengues to reach the Champions League Final, which they eventually won.
