While it looks like Elon Musk will soon be stepping down as Twitter CEO, Snoop Dogg has placed himself as a leading candidate to take over.
It’s been all change at the social media company after its owner Musk seemed to admit to some mistakes as head of Twitter. He then shared a poll that got over 17.5 million votes, asking the Twittersphere whether he should step down as chief, stating he’ll “abide by the results” of the poll.
The final result saw 57.5 percent vote for him to step down, meaning his time running the day-to-day operations of Twitter could be coming to an end.
During his short time in charge of Twitter, he’s overseen a number of controversial moments—the launch of the Twitter Blue subscription service, the banning of journalists, and the reinstation of several previously banned users.
While Musk’s time at the helm may not have gone smoothly, American rapper Snoop Dogg is ready to take over.
“Should I run Twitter?” Snoop asked his followers. He received around 3.4 million votes in his poll, but the results were far more conclusive than Musk’s poll.
A whopping 81 percent of voters backed him and agreed that he in fact should run Twitter.
As well as the huge voter turnout, over 200,000 people liked, retweeted, and commented on the poll. Snoop shared one of the high-rated comments which depicted a world in which he ran Twitter.
“Twitter after Snoop Dogg takes over,” user Mobius Strip wrote as he shared a short video showing the Twitter app, with smoke billowing across the page—a reference to the rapper’s reputation for smoking marijuana.
Snoop has a history with the Twitter HQ, and it appears that the last time he was there, he “smoked out” the building. A video posted to his own YouTube channel in January 2011 shows Snoop and others visiting the headquarters before performing in the office and smoking at the same time.
Snoop’s suggestion to take over Twitter is not as farfetched as you may think though, as he’s got a successful track record of being a social media innovator.
The co-founder of Reddit and husband of Serena Williams, Alexis Ohanian, retweeted Snoop’s poll and said “having Snoop Dogg as an early Reddit investor was highly value-add.” He added, “Give him a shot as CEO!”
Back in October 2014, multiple news outlets reported that Reddit had secured $50 million in funding from a group that included Snoop Dogg, actor Jared Leto, and other tech investors.
