The Nigeria Police Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, has publicly defended Drambi Vandi, the trigger-happy policeman who killed a pregnant Lagos-based lawyer, Mrs Omobolanle Raheem. On December 25, the female lawyer was shot dead by Vandi, an Assistant Superintendent of Police. Raheem, who was pregnant at the time of her death, was shot in the Ajah area of Lagos state. The 41-year-old woman was rushed to a hospital, where she was confirmed dead.
Vandi, who was attached to the Ajiwe Police Station, Ajah, Lagos State, is said to have spent 33 years in the police force.
It was gathered that the deceased, a graduate of Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago Iwoye, Ogun State, recently moved from litigation practice to property law.
She was the Chief Executive Officer of Croston Homes and co-founder of City Building, a real estate and property development company.
Speaking recently during an interview with Splash FM in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, Ogunjobi described the killer officer as a “good and very nice man”.
The Nigeria Police Force spokesperson said the trigger-happy killer-cop was under a spiritual spell.
He said, “One thing people should understand, we are in Yoruba land here now. I’m sure many elders will know what they called ‘efun, edi, arosin, asasi’ (some magical spells cast on people to make them misbehave).
“Whatever that happens in the physical realm is controlled by the spiritual realm. The man was never a drunk, in fact, I was told he is a very nice man. I know him. The guy has been a very good man. Forget the story that he was this or that while in Niger. He was never in Niger state command.
“He is a very nice man. I think he is from Plateau state. So, what could have warranted him to cork a rifle and shoot directly at the woman? As a man, when you wake up in the morning, pray that don’t let me misbehave today, don’t let me do this today.
