President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday disclosed that N2.1 trillion banknotes have been retrieved from Nigerians by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).
Buhari disclosed this during the nationwide broadcast on Thursday, where he addressed the challenges of the currency swap policy of the CBN.
CBN in the last quarter of 2022 had redesigned the N200, N500, and N1000 Nigerian banknotes and directed Nigerians to deposit their old notes at their respective banks.
Speaking during the nationwide broadcast on Thursday Buhari said, “The need to restore the statutory ability of the CBN to keep a firm control over the money in circulation. In 2015 when this administration commenced its first term, Currency-in-Circulation was only N1.4 trillion.
