Inter Miami head coach Phil Neville has admitted his side are trying to sign Lionel Messi.
The PSG superstar has been linked with a move to David Beckham’s recently-launched MLS franchise for a couple of years now, and with Messi’s contract set to expire at the end of the season, speculation over a move to Florida has begun to intensify.
Barcelona are monitoring Messi’s situation too, but their precarious financial situation could scupper a potential homecoming, leaving the door open for Miami to pounce should the World Cup winner decide to call time on his Ligue 1 career.
This week, Neville boldly confirmed long-standing rumours of his team’s interest in Messi, insisting the deal would be “game-changing” for football in the US if it were to happen.
“I’m not going to deny [it and say] there isn’t truth in the speculation that we’re interested in Lionel Messi and Sergio Busquets,” Neville told The Times.
