Pope gifts King Charles parts of 'cross used to crucify Jesus' for coronation

DAILY STAR

Pope Francis has gifted King Charles fragments from a relic cross reputedly used in the crucifixion of Jesus Christ.

Two fragments from the True Cross have been given to His Majesty for use in the King’s coronation procession.

Vatican representatives formally presented the gift to the Royal Household last week. They have since been incorporated into the Cross of Wales, which will lead the procession on May 6 and be carried into Westminster as millions watch from around the world.

The fragments, both shaped like crosses, measure 1cm and 5mm. They were set into the larger silver crucifix behind a rose crystal gemstone, meaning they can only be seen up close.

The True Cross was found by St Helena, mother of Constantine the Great, in 326AD during her pilgrimage to the Holy Land, according to legend.
