Chelsea star Thiago Silva lays blame firmly at Todd Boehly's feet

Chelsea defender Thiago Silva has taken aim at the strategy of owner Todd Boehly after the club suffered four consecutive defeats for the first time since 1993. The Blues crashed out of the Champions League on Tuesday night, with a humbling 4-0 aggregate loss to holders Real Madrid, and Silva seemed to suggest Boehly’s transfer policy was part of the reason why.

The west London outfit currently languish 11th in the Premier League table and sit 17 points off the Champions League spots, with only seven games left to play. Chelsea now face a season outside of Europe’s premier competition next year and therefore have pretty little to play for in the weeks to come.

Lampard, who is Chelsea’s all-time leading goalscorer, was brought in by Boehly earlier this month as caretaker boss in a bid to keep fans happy following the sacking of Graham Potter. His appointment comes after a £600million ($743m) spending spree across last summer and January, with the American billionaire standing accused of trying to buy success.

Boehly has already axed managers Thomas Tuchel and Potter, appointing Lampard until the end of the campaign. And the situation at the club has been ridiculed by Silva, widely regarded as one of the greatest defenders ever, who called out Boehly’s decision-making.

“Some can’t make the squad, we signed eight in January, we need to stop and put a strategy in place otherwise next season we could make the same mistakes.”
