South Africa’s ruling party wants country to QUIT ‘unfair’ International Criminal Court – meaning it would not have to detain Putin for war crimes if he visits for summit later this year

  • President Cyril Ramaphosa said not all countries are being treated equally 
  • ICC arrest warrant means Pretoria would have to detain Putin on arrival

President Cyril Ramaphosa said on Tuesday that his ruling ANC party had resolved that South Africa should quit the ‘unfair’ International Criminal Court, which last month issued an arrest warrant against Russian President Vladimir Putin.

The arrest warrant means that Pretoria, due to host the Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa bloc summit this year, would have to detain him on arrival.
