Woman's fury as she catches Deliveroo riders eating lunch they failed to deliver

A woman allegedly caught some Deliveroo drivers eating the lunch she had ordered for her and her colleagues that she says was never delivered.

The customer said she ordered £50 worth of food from the popular burger restaurant Almost Famous in Manchester yesterday.

The woman said the Deliveroo app reported that the driver had tried to deliver the food and had left by the entrance of the building, but she could not find it.

She said she contacted the food delivery app but initially, they said they could not refund her as the driver had been outside for eight minutes, reports the Manchester Evening News.

The customer, however, decided to go and look outside a Pret A Manger around the corner when she often sees delivery drivers.

She said that she saw drivers eating the food she had ordered, which carried the order number she had received, and when she confronted them, she claimed they “laughed” in her face.

She explained: “I got a notification at 12.54pm saying they’d tried to deliver it and tried ringing the intercom but just left it by the entrance of the office walk. Two minutes later, I walked down and it wasn’t there.

“I immediately thought my food had been stolen, so I contacted them and they said they couldn’t refund me because the driver had been outside for eight minutes.

“This was still within the eight minutes, and I always see drivers hanging around outside the Pret round the corner, so I just thought I’d look there and I saw a bunch of people outside eating our burgers.

“I knew it was the drivers because they had our food on the table, and the exact same order number on the bag.

“I took a picture of them and they just laughed in my face and said ‘well, we’re still getting paid for it’. They couldn’t care less, they just continued to eat it.”

The woman said she said the situation was “so ridiculous” that many of her friends did not even believe her when she told them what had happened.

She added: “It was literally two minutes from getting the notification on my phone to say they were trying to deliver it to me getting downstairs. There was no way they waited.”

After finding out about the incident, Almost Famous reached out to the woman and delivered a replacement order, while the woman has also since had a refund from Deliveroo.

A spokesperson for Almost Famous said: “We’re just happy to see the Deliveroo drivers got a meal so good for their lunch, the Friday feeling was in full swing and the food just must have smelt that good they couldn’t resist.
