Buhari signs bill excluding National Assembly workers from contributory pension

Less than 24 hours to his exit as President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari ( Retd.), has assented to the National Assembly Service Pensions Board bill and two others.

The PUNCH reports that the bill which has become an act seeks to exclude National Assembly workers, and others from the mandatory contributory pension scheme.

In a statement on Sunday signed by Senator Babajide Omoworare, he said it was in furtherance of the provisions of Section 58 of the Constitution and the Acts Authentication Act Cap. A2, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria 2004.

The statement read, “The National Assembly Service Pensions Board (Establishment) Act establishes the National Assembly Service Pensions Board to administer the pension scheme for personnel of the Service and exempts the personnel of the National Assembly Service from the Contributory Pension Scheme.”
