Mason Greenwood has not made a Premier League appearance since January 2022 and it’s unclear whether the England international will play for Manchester United again
Manchester United are not expected to wait until their takeover saga finishes to make a decision on Mason Greenwood’s future.
The Glazers put United up for sale in November and are edging closer to finally naming a preferred bidder. The leading two candidates to purchase the Red Devils are Qatari banker Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al Thani and INEOS founder Sir Jim Ratcliffe.
Greenwood, 21, has not played for United since January 2022 following allegations against him by a woman of physical and sexual abuse and remains suspended by the club as they conduct an internal investigation. The England international was arrested and due to stand trial before all charges were dropped by the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) in February.
Greenwood still has two years left on his contract, with United having the option of a further year. The Premier League club are yet to announce a decision on Greenwood’s future, but he was recently spotted completing a one-on-one training session in public.
As reported by The Telegraph, the uncertainty surrounding United’s ownership will have no impact on Greenwood’s future. It’s believed United are supportive of the player working with a personal trainer to keep himself physically and mentally fit.
United launched their own inquiry into Greenwood’s situation after the CPS dropped his charges in February. Yet their inquiry is still ongoing and it’s unclear when a decision on his future will be reached. He remains unavailable for selection on full pay. Erik ten Hag’s players will start reporting back for pre-season on July 3.
