A Department of Justice attorney who led a years-long investigation into Hunter Biden is the son of a crooked Internal Revenue Service agent, records show.
Meyer Weiss — whose son David served as the US Attorney for Delaware — was convicted in 1985 of taking more than $200,000 from businessmen looking to skirt federal tax laws, according to the nonprofit Marco Polo.
The elder Weiss worked at the IRS in Philadelphia from 1955 to 1984. The story of his disgrace was covered by the Washington Post in 1984.
“Mr. Weiss confessed and cooperated in the investigation,” court records read.
He was sentenced to four years in prison and fined $100,000. Records show that the elder Weiss paid in-part for his son’s college and law school tuition with money he received in bribes.
