The newspapers report the protests staged in various states by the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC), Trade Union Congress (TUC) and National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), over the hardship caused by the federal government’s economic policies. 

Punch reports that the NLC says it is ready to fight the economic pains and hardship. The newspaper says Umar Chugali, a flag officer, has declared that the Nigerian Navy will continue to set vessels intercepted with stolen crude oil on fire.

Daily Trust says that no fewer than 4,387 persons have been killed in road crashes across the country from January 1 to June 30 this year. The newspaper reports that the federal government says 43 percent of Nigerian children between the ages of five and 11 are engaged in child labour.
