Human body can't cope in 40C heat as 'strain on heart causes increase in deaths'

The human body cannot cope in heats of 40C as the “extra strain” on our hearts will cause an “increase in deaths”.

Following on from Europe’s “week of hell”, where blistering heats saw temperatures exceed that of 40C in parts of the south, scientists are looking into the long term impact.

While the forecast may be sunny skies, the outlook is not so good for those hoping to stay alive, with rising worries over a heatwave massacre aired.

Last year, 60,000 deaths across Europe were linked to the rising temperatures, and now parts of the world are using body bags filled with ice to keep cool.

Professor Damian Bailey of University of South Wales led a BBC reporter through the changes in temperature, saying rising heats will change the body’s psychology “quite considerably.”

The body needs to keep the temperature around vital organs like the heart, lungs and liver, at a comfortable 37C.
