Manchester United has taken a significant step in response to allegations of abuse against Brazilian forward Antony. The club, in an official statement, has announced a delay in Antony’s return to training to allow him to address these serious accusations.
Three women in the Brazilian media have made allegations of abuse against Antony, which he strongly denies. Despite the absence of any arrest or charges, Manchester United has chosen to prioritize the gravity of the situation.
In their statement, the club said, “Manchester United acknowledges the allegations made against Antony. Players who have not participated in international matches are due back in training on Monday. However, it has been agreed with Antony that he will delay his return until further notice in order to address the allegations. As a club, we condemn acts of violence and abuse. We recognize the importance of safeguarding all those involved in this situation, and acknowledge the impact these allegations have on survivors of abuse.”
This decision has been authorized after consultation with key figures at the club, including Richard Arnold and Erik ten Hag. It underscores the seriousness with which Manchester United is approaching the allegations against Antony.
