Elon Musk has confirmed the first human Neuralink chip will be trialled, with a test subject set to receive the controversial chip.

The Tesla and Twitter CEO confirmed the next phase of study on the Neuralink chips in a post to X, with the aim to “restore full body movement”. The SpaceX CEO said it could have helped Stephen Hawking walk again.

A full statement from both Neuralink and Elon Musk was posted to X, formerly Twitter, and they hope to improve the link between “human and AI bandwith”. He added the “Luke Skywalker” solution “can become real” and referenced Star Wars in a later tweet.

Musk’s tweet racked up tens of thousands of likes just 20 minutes after being posted, with thousands pouring in to witness the tech innovation. Neuralink hopes to use the technology in aiding those with spinal cord injuries.

A statement from Musk read: “The first human patient will soon receive a Neuralink device. This ultimately has the potential to restore full body movement. In the long term, Neuralink hopes to play a role in AI risk civilizational risk reduction by improving human to AI (and human to human) bandwidth by several orders of magnitude. Imagine if Stephen Hawking had had this.”

Further words from a Neuralink statement confirmed the breakthrough and subsequent plans for human testing. They are now requesting individuals for a trial, and listed it as the PRIME study.
