Former UFC middleweight champion, Isreal Adesanya, has pleaded guilty to charges of driving under the influence in his native New Zealand.
According to his team, on August 19, Adesanya was found to have 87 milligrams of alcohol per 100 milliliters of blood while driving, exceeding the country’s legal limit of 50 milligrams.
The Nigerian-born fighter said: “I want to apologise to the community, my family and my team for the decision I made to get behind the wheel after drinking at a dinner. I am disappointed with my decision to drive, it was wrong. I know that people might follow me and I want them to know I don’t think this behavior is acceptable.”
Adesanya, who was a two-time UFC middleweight champion, dropped his UFC middleweight title when he lost to Sean Strickland at UFC 293 on September 10 in Australia.
