MADRID UNIVERSAL
With five wins in six La Liga matches, Real Madrid have had a near-perfect start to the new season.
But even when the club have continued to perform well, Los Blancos have through many transformational stages during the course of the past two months.
One of the most prevalent changes has come in the form of Carlo Ancelotti relying heavily on young midfielders, as opposed to old guards such as Luka Modric and Toni Kroos.
Perez not a fan of Kroos-Modric pairing anymore
According to a report from The Athletic, the pairing of Kroos and Modric does not please Real Madrid president Florentino Perez anymore.
This comes shortly after Ancelotti took the gamble of starting the two veterans in midfield for the first time this season, on the weekend against Atletico Madrid.
Unfortunately, the two were unable to make much of an impact, as Real Madrid lost 3-1 to their city rivals.
Ancelotti faced most of the flak, and the Italian did take full responsibility for the defeat. But Modric and Kroos’ underperformance, coupled with Perez’s disapproval of the pairing, should serve as a warning sign for both the players.
What does the future hold?
Real Madrid had to go through a lot to convince Luka Modric and Toni Kroos to prolong their stay at the Santiago Bernabeu for another year.
But everything suggests they are unlikely to continue beyond the end of the season. Modric, in particular, has seen his game-time take a big hit, as Ancelotti continue to trust in Eduardo Camavinga and Federico Valverde.
