A MAN who has travelled to more than 100 countries recently revealed the strangest place he’s ever visited.
Travel influencer Daniel Pinto, 25, has visited 121 countries, including Sri Lanka, the Maldives and Bhutan.
On a recent trip to Bhutan, Daniel visited the small village of Sopsokha, which is also known as the country’s “Phallus Village”.
After visiting the village, Daniel described it as the strangest place he’d ever been to.
Located in the western part of Bhutan, the village’s buildings and sculptures are decorated with penis symbols and artwork.
Daniel, from Viseu, Portugal, told SWNS: “It’s a very beautiful traditional Bhutanese village surrounded by rice fields, but the closer you get the weirder it becomes.
“The temple itself is just as odd. A huge golden Buddha in the middle surrounded by phalluses of all shapes and sizes.”
Sopsokha is also home to the temple of Chimi Lhakhang, known as the temple of fertility.
Many families make the pilgrimage to the temple, and women who are trying to conceive are given a wooden phallus and told to circle the temple three times.
Many people in Bhutan will have the sacred phallic symbols in their homes to aid fertility.
Daniel added: “In the temple, you also find success story pictures of couples who struggled to get pregnant then went to the village and got pregnant shortly after.
“Unfortunately, you can’t take cameras or phones into any temple in Bhutan – so no photos of the inside.
“I was only there for a few hours, which is enough. I walked around, saw the temple, and ate lunch.”
Visitors to the village can also purchase a phallic-inspired souvenir.
Daniel explained: “The most interesting thing is definitely the gift shop, which sells penis dolls of all shapes sizes, and colours.
“There were t-shirts, posters, and literally everything you can think of in the shape of a penis.”
“Many Bhutanese people will have a penis bought from this village in their home.”
Because of the rigorous tourism in Bhutan, Daniel had to be chaperoned by a government official during his trip.
Since his visit to Bhutan, Daniel has been to Sri Lanka and the Maldives too.
