The candidate of the Labour Party in the 2023 presidential election, Mr Peter Obi, has again made public his academic record, saying that for him to have vied for the number one position in the country, his records were no more private.
Obi who made the declaration on Wednesday in Abuja while fielding questions from newsmen at a world press conference, disclosed that his native name was ‘Onwubuasi’ which means ‘death cannot claim me’,.
He said he did not like bearing the name but preferred to be called Peter and by his confirmation name Gregory as a Catholic faithful.
He said some of his school mates were the current governor of Anambra state, Charles Soludo, immediate past Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria Godwin Emefiele, the current Vice Chancellor of University of Nigeria Nsukka, among others, who entered the school same year and graduated with him the same year.
“I will not just start by giving you my academic record, I will start by introducing myself. My given name at birth by my parents is Peter Onwubuasi Obi. That was what my parents gave me at birth. I don’t answer my Igbo and middle name. What it means is that I cannot die. So, I choose not to answer it but it was my father that gave me that name. My name is Peter Onwubuasi Obi. I’m a Catholic and my confirmation name was Gregory. So you’ll see me write Peter Gregory Obi.
“I started my primary school at Santa Onitsha before the war. After the war, we came back and I went to a primary school called Holy Trinity Onitsha. I was there for a few years when my aunty who was a principal at a place called Umuoba Anam Primary School, took me because she wanted to live with me.
“From there, I passed Common Entrance to go into Christ The King College I was in Christ The King College from September 1973 to 1978. Then I went to University of Nigeria Nsukka from 1980 to 1984, read Philosophy, had a BA, Second Class in Philosophy.
“Thereafter, I have been to so many other institutions for training which I will show you before you leave now. I can claim to be an alumnus of some of those schools I went for training which includes Lagos Business School, Kelog Graduate School, Oxford University, State Business School in Oxford, Cambridge, among others…
