Prominent media personality, Ifedayo Olarinde, popularly known as Daddy Freeze, has disclosed the reasons behind his decision to stop attending church after his divorce.
According to him, his estrangement from church life began after his pastor relegated him to the back row due to his divorce. Speaking on the latest episode of the Teju Babyface Deep Dive podcast, Daddy Freeze revealed that shortly after his divorce in 2014, his church’s pastor requested that he sit at the back of the church because of his divorced status.
The On-Air Personality (OAP) explained that before his divorce, he was an active church worker, deeply involved in organizing the church’s events. However, he was swiftly expelled from his roles within the church following his divorce.
Rather than accept this relegation to the back seat, Daddy Freeze opted to stop attending church altogether. He embarked on a journey of personal study and scriptural research, which led him to question many of the teachings in Nigerian churches.
Daddy Freeze reflected, “My marriage had always been troubled, and in 2014, it came to an end. I used to organize events for the church and was paid for it. At least, the pastor wasn’t taking all the money; he shared it with those involved.”
“I was booked for an event I used to do for the church, and I received a call advising me to cancel it due to my divorce or pending divorce drama. I questioned, ‘Does my divorce erase my connection with God?’ Then, the pastor visited my house, telling me, ‘I’m not telling you not to come to church, but when you do, sit at the back.’ I thought, ‘What is all this?’ So, I chose to stay home on Sundays. Rather than attending church and hiding, I figured it was better to stay home.”
