A former drug dealer who was locked up for 28 years in a US jail says it was “madness” behind bars – with prison guards staging fights between the lags and placing wagers on who would win.
Born into an environment where drugs and violence were an everyday fact of life, it was almost inevitable Chino would be drawn into the world of crime. He told the Soft White Underbelly podcast: “Drug dealing is a big thing in in our family… growing up I remember always smelling marijuana, seeing guns and sometimes seeing my dad beat somebody up and so it was just something that I thought was normal.”
For Chino, going to prison wasn’t something to be feared, in fact, he says it was his ambition.
