The Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Corps, Gombe State Command, Felix Theman, has decried the tradition whereby passengers sit dangerously in the boots of moving cars as they commute to their various destinations within the metropolis.
The Commander who spoke with Arewa PUNCH exclusively noted that the dangerous tradition is on the increase following the removal of fuel subsidy.
According to him, the cost of transportation has skyrocketed, thus forcing passengers to resort to transiting to their various locations while seated precariously in the boots compartment of the cars, which are ordinarily meant to accommodate goods.
The boots compartment, now commonly referred to as ‘parlour’ among commuters in Gombe State, has of recent been a source of cheap means of transiting from one part of the metropolis to the other.
For a journey initially priced for N500 before the subsidy removal, such a trip now attracts N1500, being double the price.
However, the fare for passengers travelling to the same distance but being accommodated in the boot, it would range from between N500 to N700 per trip…
