Arsenal handed slim Ivan Toney transfer chance amid Thomas Frank admission

FOOTBALL LONDON

Arsenal have been warned off making a January transfer window move for Ivan Toney, with Brentford boss Thomas Frank admitting there is only a 1% chance that he leaves the Bees this month. Toney is about to return from an eight-month betting suspension, as the Bees gear up for a Premier League meeting with Nottingham Forest this weekend.

Before that, Brentford take on Wolves in an FA Cup third round replay on Tuesday night. Toney will not be involved against Gary O’Neil’s side, with the match coming one day before he is allowed to take to the pitch again. Forest at the weekend will be his return match.

But what of his future? Toney has been one of the first things on many reporters’ lips with the January transfer window now in full swing, not to mention Arsenal‘s profligacy in front of goal and clear need for a striker to hit the back of the net and fire them to a Premier League title challenge.

Brentford have slapped a £100million price tag on the striker’s shoulders, despite having not played a competitive match since March last year. He was, however, the third highest scorer in the Premier League last season, and if he starts as he means to go on at the weekend, is almost a guarantee of goals.
