Mason Greenwood closing in on ‘dream’ Barcelona transfer after Man Utd axe

DAILY STAR

A sensational move to Barcelona looks to be on the cards for Mason Greenwood this summer.

The Manchester United forward, who is currently on loan at Getafe, is a long-term target of Barca’s and the Catalan club have been particularly impressed with him this season. Greenwood has scored five goals in 19 games, and has been turning heads with a series of stellar performances for his new side, prompting envious glances from all over Europe.

Barcelona are hoping to take advantage of United’s eagerness to wash their hands of Greenwood by snapping him up fairly cheaply. However, reports indicate the Red Devils may ask for around £40million, despite the fact Greenwood’s contract will have just one year left to run come the end of the season.

According to the Sun, joining Barcelona would be a “dream” for Greenwood, who is encouraging his entourage to secure him a move to the Camp Nou. Similarly, Xavi and his team view Greenwood as a player who can “excite” the fans and are keen to get the deal done.
Barcelona have sent scouts to watch the Englishman six times this season, and reports back have been “overwhelmingly positive”. Last month it emerged the Spanish giants were prepared to offer Greenwood Lionel Messi’s old No. 10 shirt to sweeten the deal.
