The world’s first trillionaire will be walking among us by 2034 – with both Jeff Bezos and Elon Musk in the running to reach the milestone first.
The five richest men are currently growing their wealth at £11million an hour. Their combined value has more than doubled since the start of the decade, leaping from $405billion (£317bn) to $869billion (£681bn).
The current standings see Musk at the top of the pile with $222bn (£174bn), Oxfam has reported, followed by LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton chief executive Bernard Arnault with $179bn (£140bn). Behind him is Jeff Bezos on $177bn (£139bn) ahead of the co-founder of software company Oracle, Larry Ellison, on $138billion before Mark Zuckerberg brings up the diamond-encrusted rear with $134bn (£105bn).
The news comes as the group’s wealth has skyrocketed at three times the rate of global inflation in comparison to five million people being made poorer in the same period. Compared to 2020, billionaires are now $3.3tn (£2.5tn) better off.
