• Aggrieved students of Kwara State University, Malete, attacked the divisional police station in response to a raid on suspected black spots by Nigeria Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) operatives near the school premises.
• The state police command spokesperson, DSP Ejire Adeyemi Toun, reported that the gathering of students expressing dissent began around 1600hrs, focusing on grievances related to recent NDLEA raids.
•Students marched from various parts of the town to Okoru Junction near Malete Police Division, carrying placards with inscriptions such as “Say No to NDLEA.”
• Efforts were made to engage with the students to restore peace, during which they encountered armed policemen from Ila-orangun in a white Toyota Hilux vehicle, mistaking them for NDLEA operatives.
• Students chased the policemen to Malete Divisional Police Headquarters and began throwing stones at the station, causing damage to the rooftop and vehicle windshields.
• Police responded by firing tear gas to disperse the crowd and prevent further damage. One police officer, PC Fayemi Kehinde, sustained minor injuries from the thrown stones but received medical treatment and was discharged from the hospital.
