Residents of Abuja, Nigeria’s capital, are bracing for a seven-hour blackout over the weekend, as announced by the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN).
According to a statement from TCN’s General Manager of Public Affairs, Ndidi Mbah, the blackout is due to scheduled routine maintenance on its 132/33kV 2X100MVA power Transformers at the Apo Transmission Substation.
Affected areas include Garki, Asokoro, Lugbe, Airport Road, Gudu, Gaduwa, segments of Lokogoma, Apo, Kabusa, Guzape, and Nepa Junction.
The maintenance is slated to occur from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm on both Saturday and Sunday, with power restoration expected by 4:00 pm on each day.
Mbah emphasized that the outage is necessary for the maintenance crew to conduct preventive measures on the transformers, preventing Abuja Distribution Company (Abuja DisCo) from distributing power to customers during this period.
The statement concluded with TCN expressing regret for any inconvenience caused to electricity consumers in the affected areas.
