President Bola Tinubu urged Nigerians to exercise patience amidst the current economic challenges, assuring that there is light at the end of the tunnel.
During his visit to the leader of the pan-Yoruba sociopolitical organization, Afenifere, and a condolence visit to the late former Ondo State Governor Rotimi Akeredolu’s family, Tinubu acknowledged the economic hardships faced by Nigerians due to government policies.
The removal of fuel subsidy and other economic reforms implemented by Tinubu has faced public criticism, leading to a nationwide protest by the Nigeria Labour Congress. Despite the challenges, Tinubu welcomed criticisms, stating, “I requested the job, and I am not complaining about it. I take full responsibility.”
In response to public concerns, the President emphasized Nigeria’s resilience, stating, “Nigeria will survive the current economic challenges.” He committed to leading the country towards economic and social prosperity, highlighting his focus on fiscal and true federalism.
Tinubu expressed gratitude for the understanding and support of Nigerians during these harsh economic conditions. Afenifere leader Pa Olu Falae commended Tinubu for his commitment to Nigeria’s progress, urging him to be fair and courageous in implementing institutional reforms for a safer and more prosperous Nigeria.
The President assured the public that patience and perseverance would not be in vain, and he reaffirmed his determination to re-engineer the country’s finances and curb selfish interests. Tinubu praised Nigeria’s ability to overcome challenges, citing the example of Lagos emerging as the fifth-largest economy in Africa.
During the condolence visit, Tinubu eulogized the late Akeredolu as a statesman and expressed prayers for the prosperity of the Owo community. The President also extended condolences to Akeredolu’s family, commending the South-West governors for their contributions to the burial, especially Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for repatriating Akeredolu’s remains to Nigeria.
Tinubu’s visit aimed to strengthen ties with the Yoruba community and address concerns about economic policies, emphasizing his commitment to building an efficient and inclusive Nigeria.
