The Federal High Court in Lagos has ruled in favor of businessman Dickson Nonso Onuchukwu, declaring his arrest by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) as “unlawful, illegal, oppressive and unconstitutional.”
In a statement, Justice Akintayo Aluko asserted that Onuchukwu’s harassment, arrest, and detention violated his fundamental rights to dignity of human persons, personal liberty, and freedom of movement.
“Onuchukwu, represented by his lawyer Anthony Omaghomi in suit FHC/L/CS/679/2018, took legal action against the EFCC, Inspector-General of Police (IG), and the Lagos Commissioner of Police, citing defamation of character, harassment, and unlawful detention,” the statement read.
Facing the accusations, Onuchukwu defended his innocence, providing the court with documentary evidence disproving any affiliation with Swiss Golden International. He clarified that he was merely a customer, not involved in any fraudulent activities, and took his business endeavors seriously, actively networking and expanding.
In seeking justice, Onuchukwu petitioned the court to grant him N1 billion in damages against the respondents, aiming to restore his reputation and compensate for the unjust treatment he endured.
