The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has attributed the power outage experienced at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos on Thursday to a minor wire spark, clarifying earlier reports of a fuse cut.
According to a statement by FAAN’s Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Obiageli Orah, the incident occurred at approximately 11:20 am in the E-arrival hall of the MMIA old terminal. However, FAAN assured that the situation did not disrupt airport operations and was swiftly addressed by the engineering team.
“The spark originated from the ceiling of the E arrival hall,” the statement noted, emphasizing that the power supply to the affected section was immediately switched off to prevent further escalation. The engineering department promptly mobilized to identify the source of the spark, and the suspected cable was swiftly cut to stop the power flow.
FAAN reiterated its commitment to passenger safety, stating, “The safety and security of passengers and staff remain a top priority for Murtala Muhammed International Airport. The quick and effective response by our engineering department exemplifies our commitment to maintaining a safe and efficient airport environment.”
Earlier reports of a fuse cut causing the outage were clarified by FAAN, confirming that the incident was indeed a result of a minor wire spark. The prompt response by the engineering team ensured minimal disruption to airport operations, highlighting FAAN’s dedication to maintaining a secure environment for travelers and staff alike.
