Bodejo, leader of miyetti allah, arraigned for alleged unlawful militia group

The President of Miyetti Alla Kautal Hore, Bello Bodejo, who has been detained, faced legal proceedings initiated by the federal government on Friday before the Abuja Division of the Federal High Court over alleged involvement in an unlawful militia group. Bodejo was charged with three counts relating to the purported establishment of an ethnic militia in Tudun Wada, Kau Local Government Area of Nasarawa State. Following his plea of ‘not guilty,’ the prosecution counsel, M. B. Abubakar, requested the court to remand him in the custody of the Defence Intelligence Agency (DIA).

In a ruling by Justice Inyang Ekwo, the request was granted, and the trial was scheduled to commence on May 27.

Justice Ekwo had initially set March 22 for ruling on the defendant’s motion for bail or unconditional release from custody. However, the judge ruled that the filing of charges by the federal government superseded the bail ruling. Consequently, Bodejo was ordered to enter his plea, leading to the adjournment of the matter to a later date. Bodejo has been in custody since his arrest on January 23 in Malia, Nasarawa State, on allegations of establishing an armed militia contrary to the Constitution of Nigeria and endangering national unity.
