Piers Morgan has slammed Harry and Meghan ahead of their upcoming trip to Nigeria.
The couple, who quit royal life in 2020 and hightailed it across the pond, were invited by the west African country’s chief of defence staff — its highest ranking military official. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex will be making the journey shortly after Harry, 39, visits the UK – without his wife – to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Invictus Games.
Announcing the news on X, Vanity Fair posted: “Meghan Markle will join Prince Harry on a trip to Nigeria this May, the couple’s first official international tour since leaving their royal roles in 2020.” However, Piers snapped back: “There’s nothing ‘official’ about it – they’re not working royals. This is precisely why their titles must be stripped.”
Responding to Piers’ post, one fan agreed with him saying: “They’re using HRH again. Palace should issue a cease & desist order.” However, another pleaded: “Piers I like you, I really do but bro, when are you gonna give it a rest? Please.”
There is no love lost between the TalkTV presenter and Suits star, Meghan. Piers infamously stormed out of the Good Morning Britain studio in 2021 before he quit the show after making disparaging remarks about the mum-of-two’s mental health, which received over 40,000 Ofcom complaints.
Stating he didn’t believe Meghan was the victim of racial abuse at the hands of The Firm, Piers was fuming after the Duchess’ explosive interview with Oprah Winfrey. He objected to the fact The Colour Purple star didn’t challenge Meghan over any of the claims she made during the interview – and he threw doubt over her comments about struggling with her mental health after entering the royal family.
However, fans have long noted that Piers seems to be salty about Meghan due to their own failed friendship. She began spending more time in the UK in 2016 and struck up a friendship with the dad-of-four – but he says she ditched him the minute she met future husband Prince Harry. Piers complained in the past: “She met Prince Harry at the dinner that night, went on a solo date with him the next night, and I never heard from her again. Not a word. I’d been ghosted.”
