The Department of Defense has admitted it has no idea how much money it has given the Chinese to make viruses more dangerous.
Chinese scientists have been experimenting with deadly coronavirus variants, including GX_P2V, which killed humanized mice 100% of the time, and a mutant version of the vesicular stomatitis virus that caused multi-organ failure and death in hamster test subjects.
The Pentagon has funded gain-of-function research in China, but a recent report from the Department of Defense Office of Inspector General reveals that they have no idea how much money has been invested in these potentially dangerous experiments.
The report highlights concerns about funding research that could enhance coronaviruses, influenza, Nipah, Ebola, and other pathogens of pandemic potential, and notes that China’s overall biorisk management score is less than stellar.
The Pentagon has identified China as its “top pacing challenge”, but has failed to track its funding of potentially risky research in the country, raising questions about the oversight of these experiments and the potential risks to global health.
