The Dangote refinery project has been at the center of a heated debate in recent weeks, with allegations of sabotage, monopoly, and substandard products. Now, Rabiu Kwankwaso, presidential candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party, is urging the federal government to ensure the project’s success.
The controversy began on June 4, when Aliko Dangote, chairman of the Dangote Group, claimed that international oil companies were trying to frustrate the refinery’s operations by withholding crude oil supplies. However, the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission has dismissed these claims as “erroneous,” citing provisions in the Petroleum Industry Act that guide willing buyer-willing seller transactions.
In a surprising turn of events, Dangote has now offered to sell the refinery to the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited. This comes after the house of representatives launched an investigation into allegations of monopoly and substandard products
