The planet’s fever-like temperature surge has continued to intensify, reaching a new high on Monday, according to the European Union’s climate monitor, Copernicus Climate Change Service (C3S). The daily average global temperature reached a scorching 17.15 degrees Celsius (62.9 degrees Fahrenheit) on July 22, surpassing the previous record set just a day before.
This unprecedented increase in temperature, which scientists have attributed to global warming caused by fossil fuel emissions, is expected to continue throughout the summer months. The heat has been felt across the globe, with heatwaves and wildfires causing devastation and destruction in several regions.
